How to Use iTransfer: Manage Contacts & SMS

iTransfer (download link: for Mac, for PC) is a robust and full-featured utility that makes it easy to manage and transfer contents amongst your iOS devices, Android devices, iTunes and computer. It does everything from migration of media content between your mobile devices and computer all the way through to rebuilding your entire iTunes library, to creating, deleting, renaming playlists, fixing music ID3 tags and moving tracks from one playlist to another on your iPhone library, and even to rooting your Android phones and more.

Now, we will show you how to manage and transfer your different types of media files respectively. Click any article on the list below to get into the detailed instructions. Note that the process is exactly the same whether you own a Windows PC or a Mac.

Part 6: Manage Contacts & SMS (Windows version only)

This guide includes two parts: 1) Manage and transfer contacts between iOS/Android devices and computer; 2) Manage messages on Android devices and export to computer

1) Manage and transfer contacts between iOS/Android devices and computer

Open iTransfer and plug your iPhone or Android device into the computer with USB cable.

After your device is connected, click Information button on the navigation bar, you'll be taken to the information window where dispalys all you contacts and SMS.

1. Add contacts from computer to your device.

Select the contacts group (local, cloud) you want to add to from the sidebar firstly, then click on the Import button. From its drop-down list select the contact types: from Vcard File, from CSV File, from Windows Address Book, from Outlook 2010/2013/2016.

Next, a dialog should open, you will have to select the contacts you want to add from your computer. Click Open to load the file, then click OK and your contacts will be transferred to your device immediately.

2. Export your contacts to computer or to another iOS & Android device.

To do this, select the contacts you want to export to PC or move to another device, click Export from the top menu (or right-click on the selected contacts and choose Export from the right-click menu). From its drop-down list, you have a few options to chooose from: Vcard File, CSV File, Windows Address Book, Outlook 2010/2013/2016, to Device.

Next, in the new opening window, browse and select a destination folder on your computer and click Save to start copying your contacts from device to your computer.

If you choose to transfer to another iOS & Android device, iPhone to Samsung phone for example, select Export > to Device > [Your device name]. As screenshow given below.

3. Delete contacts on your device.

Select the contacts you want to delete from the contacts list, click Delete button on the top menu, click the Delete button to confirm the pop-up message.

4. Edit contacts information

Select the contacts you want to edit from the list, click Edit on the right side of the interface or from right-click menu. A editing window should appear allowing you to change the information for the contact. You can even click Add Field to add extra information such as street, address, notes, and more. Click Save to preserve the changes.

5. Create new contacts.

Click New button on the top menu, an small window should pop up. Fill information in the blank fields, press Save to save the information and close the window.

6. Merge duplicate contacts into a complete one.

Click on the contacts group you want to de-deplicate contacts from left sidebar, and press Merge button at the top menu, iTransfer will scan and show you all the contact groups checked.

Click Next and the deplicate contacts will be listed in a new new window, as image shown below. From there, you are able to select a match type. The matched types including Exactly matched, Name and any other items matched, Email and any other items matched, Phone and any other items matched, Name, email or phone matched.

Finally, you just press Merge Selected located on the lower right corner to merge all selected duplicates in a batch, or click the Merge button on the far right side of every selected duplicates to merge one by one manually.

7. Manage contacts in groups

You can create new groups add contacts to it, as well as transferring contacts from one group to another. To create a new group, simply right click on the Contacts category on the left sidebar, select New Group from right-click menu. To move contacts from one group to another, all you need to do is select the contacts you want to transfer, from right-click menu select Add to Group > [Group Name].

2) Manage messages on Android devices and export to computer

iTransfer enables you to back up your important messages on computer, or delete messages directly on your device, as well as sending message via computer.

1. Export message to computer

Click SMS category (under Contacts) on the left sidebar, all your messages should display. You can either click on Content to check all of messages or tick the box next to the specific messages to select individual contacts, and then click Export on the top menu. From its drop-down menu, choose Export to HTML or Export to CSV. Then in opening window, browse your target folder on your PC where you want to save contacts, click OK to start exporting process.

Tip: we suggest that you select Export to HTML option for messages with images and attachments.

2. Delete messages in batches

Select the messages you want to delete and click Delete on the middle top, click Yes on the confirmation window.

3. Send messages directly on computer

To reply to existing messages, click on the message you want to reply, you'll see a SMS box on the right side. Type your contents in the blank and click Send.

To send new messages, you can either click on New SMS icon on the right side or click on New button on the top left menu, a SMS box will pop up, you then type in your contents and select multiple recipients as you wish. Click Send.
