2. How to Restore Text Messages from iCloud to iPhone X

For this way to work you must have had a previous backup of the iPhone X messages in iCloud. If that's the case, then you can choose to restore deleted messages to iPhone X from iCloud backup when you found some parts of texts are missing.

  • Open the Settings app, go to iCloud > Manage Storage > Backup. Check your Backup to see if the deleted texts were on your device when you last backed up (have a look at what date the iCloud backup was made), restoring the backup should recover them.
  • If the backup includes the deleted text messages, you can restore your iPhone X to factory settings and then set up it using the backup to recover messages. It's important to save a copy of any recently added data such as photos, videos, contacts after that backup time. Go to General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings > Erase Now.
  • All content on the device will be erased and restore to factory settings.
  • Your iPhone X will reboot. When you come to Apps & Data page, tap Restore from iCloud Backup. Select the backup and your device will restore that state. When it finished, you should restore texts on iCloud and see them on your Messages app.

It worth mentioning that an iCloud backup can only be used to do a complete restore. You can't selectively restore only messages or parts of conversations to iPhone X.
